Synopsis

The Hmong of Vietnam was created with the Hmong people who live in the remote mountainous north of Vietnam. Originally coming from China and settling in the north of Vietnam in the early 1800’s after fleeing Chinese oppression. This book shares aspects of the Hmong communities way of life, inc farming techniques religion and spiritual systems and festivals. It also tells of how they survived wars and government policies that have attempted to assimilate them into the Vietnamese mainstream and break down their culture – to assimilate the, It gives an insight into the Bhil community’s feelings about the things development has brought as well as those things lost. Through a montage of text and photographs, diary extracts and quotes this book explores the story of changes faced as tourism beings about the greatest changes with new roads and hotels being built, making remote villages accessible to international travellers.
